Christopher H. Fox

DMD, DMSc

Christopher H. Fox is the Chief Executive Officer of the International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) and the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR). Dr. Fox completed his dental, post graduate and clinical studies at Harvard University, receiving a DMD, a Master of Science in Epidemiology, a Doctorate of Medical Sciences in Oral Biology and Oral Epidemiology, and completed residencies in Periodontology and Dental Public Health.  He is a Fellow of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research and the American Academy for the Advancement of Science and has received the Harvard School of Dental Medicine Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Dr. Fox’s research and policy interests are to maintain the science-base of the dental profession which must include myriad pathways for a diverse scientific workforce, particularly dental clinical scientists, and that science, research, and critical thinking remain integrated in the dental school curriculum.  IADR and AADOCR have brought attention to the need for research to inform the global oral health policy agenda, the role of preventive interventions, and the need to address global oral health inequities.

Prof. Dr. Anwar R Tappuni LDSRCS, MRACDS (Oral Med), PhD, FHEA

Anwar R Tappuni is a Professor and Honorary Consultant of Oral Medicine. She is the Director of the Doctorate in Clinical Dentistry in Oral Medicine, Queen Mary University of London, UK. She is the President of the Oral Medicine and Pathology Group of the British Society for Oral and Dental Research. Professor Tappuni co-chaired the International Steering Committee and the 7th World Workshop (WW) for Oral Health and Disease in AIDS Conference (2014) in Hyderabad, India, and the 8th WW in Bali, Indonesia (2019). She co-authored the Hyderabad declaration, which advocated equal opportunities for HIV patients to access resources, and the Bali declaration, which called for increased awareness and knowledge on the subject. She was a Guest Editor for the Journal of Oral Diseases for a Supplement of the Proceedings of WW7 (2016) and WW8 (2020). She was first author of the Research Agenda papers 2016 and 2020, which identified the research priorities in the subject. In addition to her contribution to the field of HIV, Professor Tappuni is a practicing clinician in her specialty, and active researcher in subjects related to oral mucosal conditions including severity scoring systems for oral diseases, risk factors of malignancy in Sjogren’s syndrome and biomarkers of disease progression in head and neck cancer. She has co-authored the National Treatment Guidelines for Treatment of Sjögren’s in Adults, which was ratified in the UK by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence, the British Society for Rheumatology, and The British Health Professionals in Rheumatology. Professor Tappuni holds the British Dental Association Roll of Distinction for outstanding services to UK dentistry.

Dr. Irna Sufiawati

DDS., Sp.PM, Subsp. Inf. (K)., Ph.D

Irna Sufiawati is a Professor of Oral Medicine in the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Padjadjaran. Currently, she serves as the Head of the Department of Oral Medicine and the Oral Medicine Residency Program, Faculty of Dentistry University of Padjadjaran. Additionally, she holds the position of Chair of the Indonesian Oral Medicine Collegium. She completed a sandwich Ph.D. program in 2011 and a Post-Doc Program in 2016 at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), specializing in Virology. Her interest in the field of HIV/AIDS began while working at the Community Health Center in Wamena, Papua Province, Eastern Indonesia. This experience inspired her to pursue further education and research in the field of infectious diseases. Throughout her career, she played a role as an oral and dental health coordinator and consultant at the HIV/AIDS Clinic at the Central Referral Hospital in West Java, Indonesia. Additionally, she contributed as a co-author to the Handbook of Comprehensive HIV-AIDS Support and Treatment, which provides benefits for doctors and students in Indonesia. As a senior lecturer and researcher with a broad range of interests in Oral Medicine, she is actively engaged in teaching and conducting research focused on oral mucosal infections and immunity, oral autoimmune diseases, oral cancer, oral health and nutrition, as well as laser therapy for oral diseases. Her contributions have earned a number of honors in the national and international scientific meetings. Beyond her academic pursuits, she has demonstrated leadership by organizing scientific conferences and workshops at both national and international levels in Indonesia. She successfully chaired the Local Organizing Committee for the 8th World Workshop on Oral Health and AIDS in Bali, Indonesia, in 2019, resulted in the Bali Declaration on Oral Health in HIV/AIDS, as well as the Proceedings of the 8th World Workshop on Oral Health and HIV/AIDS as special issue of the leading journal, Oral Diseases.
