About & Scope of the Course
B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology
The course imparts lessons and training in different types of clinical laboratory and diagnostic tests that are commonly available for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases. A qualified Medical Laboratory Technologist will be able to find opportunities in India/abroad to work in Research laboratories/Biomedical/Genetic units/ health laboratories. One can also have the option to join as Tutor in Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, and as a quality manager in diagnostic laboratories. One can do post-graduation and further can pursue research to contribute to the health care delivery system.
B.Sc. Operation Theatre Technology
Operation theatre technologists have immense scope for assisting surgeons in the operation theatres linked to medical college hospitals, corporate and government hospitals in India and abroad. They are responsible for the preparatory work that must be in place at the operation theatre, prior to and following the completion of the surgical procedure. They also assist in procedures such as endoscopic surgery, digital angiogram, and lithotripsy. Further scope includes progression to postgraduation following which they are deemed eligible to become Lecturers/Assistant Professors in Allied Health Sciences institutions offering similar courses.
B.Sc. Anaesthesia Technology
The course and training are aimed at the acquisition of the skills and knowledge by the fledgling and aspiring professionals to assist Anaesthesiologists during anaesthetic procedures, intubation procedures, loading of anaesthetics to patients, assisting anaesthesia related procedures outside the operation theatre (procedures such as CT, MRI, Endoscopy, digital angiogram etc.). Further scope is towards enrolling for post graduation and following this can be employed in corporate and government hospitals, both in India and abroad.
B.Sc. Dialysis Technology
Graduates of dialysis technology are trained to evaluate, operate and maintain dialysis machines. They prepare the patients and monitor dialysis treatment under the expert guidance of qualified medical professionals. The growing awareness of renal diseases and dialysis facilities available in all hospitals has resulted in demand of trained renal dialysis technologists. The course is designed to deal with renal replacement therapy-Haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, Haemo-perfusion. Dialysis technologists get ample opportunities in hospitals and teaching institutions. They can pursue for Master’s degree and can be employed either in India or abroad.
B.Sc. Cardiac Care Technology
The qualified and trained graduates of Cardiac Care Technology form an integral part of the health care system. They are generally employed in advanced health care cardiac centre hospitals. They assist in determining underlying cardiac problems. The cardiac care technologists are trained in the acquisition of skills to perform non-invasive cardiac tests like ECG, exercise stress test, Holter monitor and ambulatory BP monitoring. The training programs enable the avid learner to handle equipments with poise and confidence, manage techniques and tools in cardiac catheterization, besides rendering the technologists capable of looking after the regular/day to day maintenance of the equipments. Additional options such as cardiac catheterization and intervention, vascular technology and sonography have much to offer in terms of career growth and remuneration packages.
B.Sc. Medical Imaging Technology
Medical Imaging Technologists function as important members of the health care team performing many a diagnostic imaging procedure in hospitals, clinics, and other health care settings. The course is primarily designed to develop highly skilled and competent radiographers duly qualified to provide quality patient care services in interventional procedures, computed tomography, ultrasonography, mammography and magnetic resonance imaging. A career in Medical Imaging Technology offers a promising future, job stability and a good compensatory package. Graduates have the eligibility and option to pursue Master’s and/or even specialise in any of the imaging modalities. The graduates can work as an application specialist in medical imaging equipment companies. They have an immense opportunity in the academic field in various higher education institutions (HEIs). In addition, the graduates possess the credentials and credibility to further embark on advance research activities in Medical Imaging Technology.
Optometry as a subject involves several facets including examining, diagnosing, managing and treating the diseases of eyes. It also deals with the working of eye equipments, provision of corrective lenses and also facilitates the running of speciality clinics for Low vision, contact lens and binocular vision. It must be mentioned that an optometrist is regarded as an independent primary health care provider who is specialized in providing eye care and upholding visual health. Graduates can be employed in the hospitals and clinics to assist ophthalmologist and multinational eye care companies. Self-employment is also guaranteed by setting up optical shops, starting own speciality clinics for contact lenses, kiosks on computer vision. Alternately, the optometrist can also seek well paid jobs in the manufacturing units of lenses, ophthalmic instruments etc. In addition, other avenues are also available. For instance, upon graduation the young professionals can pursue Post graduation/ fellowship / doctoral programs and/or take up teaching optometry as a life time option
B.Sc. Clinical Nutrition
The course is designed to have in-depth knowledge of nutrition and food science. A nutritionist provides guidance on matters of food habits and nutritional impacts on health. Job opportunities as nutritionist/dietician are in demand in government and private health care sectors, NGOs, teaching and education sectors also. One can go on to earn certification or licensure to practice as nutritionists or dieticians. Thy can conduct or take part in research activities after the completion of post-graduation.
B.Sc. Clinical Research
A graduation in clinical research provides scientific analysis of the impact, risks and benefits of medicines and or a medicinal product. B.Sc. Physician Assistant
B.Sc. Physician Assistant course provides a deep insight into the counselling aspects on preventive health care, diagnosis and treatment of illness. Besides, such professionals could order for and interpret diagnostic tests and assist in surgeries. B.Sc. Blood Banking Technology
A graduate of this course specializes in the collection and analysis of blood samples. The blood bank technologist screens the blood donors and classifies the blood type. Collecting and storing blood under well-defined optimal conditions and preparing blood for transfusion are but a few of the vital aspects that are inherently considered. The blood bank technicians could be employed in government/corporate hospitals.
Bachelor of Medical Record Science
Maintenance of good health information system needs understanding of contents of patient’s records, collection of data, application of statistical technique, understanding of medical legal aspects and statuary laws related to health care. The course is designed for the systemic documentation of a single patient’s medical history and care across time. They are generally employed in large hospitals and clinics.
Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT)
A career in physiotherapy can lead to a variety of interesting and challenging jobs in the health care system. Physiotherapist are required in each department of a hospital, be it ICU or geriatrics. They can choose to work independently or be a part of multidisciplinary medical team. Also, they can get trained in the specialised fields such as cardiovascular & respiratory geriatrics, orthopaedics, sports medicine, neurology, obstetrics and community rehabilitation etc. Alternately, these professionals can pursue inter and trans disciplinary research in areas including sports medicine, physical rehabilitation etc. They can be employed as resident physiotherapists and could be bestowed even with opportunities to grow in managerial positions.
B.Sc Critical Care Technology (CCT)
Critically ill patients are often managed in an intensive care unit within a hospital where sophisticated equipment is available to enable frequent monitoring of vital signs, assisted ventilation and, when life-threatening crises occur, and rapid resuscitation measures. On finishing this course you are easily placed in the hospitals. You work in hospitals in ICUs, emergency rooms, trauma centres and similar healthcare settings requiring emergency and critical care. B.Sc Respiratory Therapy (RT)
Respiratory therapists are mostly appointed in Intensive care units, emergency departments, Operating rooms, Neonatal nurseries and critical care teams in hospitals. Nursing homes, clinics and health care centres, pulmonary rehab centres, pulmonary function testing labs also offer openings for respiratory therapists. They may also be employed in non-hospital environments like wellness centres, diagnostic laboratories, educational institutions etc.
B.Sc Accident and Emergency Care Technology (AECT)
The Job opportunities of this course are huge all over the world as Emergency medical technicians (EMT) in ambulance and intensive care unit or casualty departments in hospitals. An emergency department is also known as accident & emergency department (A&E), in which the medical treatment facility specializing in emergency medicine, the acute care of patients who present without prior appointment, either by their own means or by that of an ambulance. The emergency department is usually found in a hospital or other primary care centre.
M.Sc. MLT Clinical Chemistry
A clinical chemist uses the knowledge of chemistry to evaluate patient health. He/she may evaluate/ assess parameters in blood and other biological specimens including tissues, study DNA, involve in research to develop diagnostic products etc. These professionals are generally employed in laboratories as Senior Technical Assistants, Technologists, specialists and R& D scientists in clinical laboratories. Besides, they can take up research and also associate them with health industry. Greater opportunities are certainly available to work in government regulatory agencies.
M.Sc. Clinical Nutrition
A nutritionist/dietician is a mandatory link between the patient and the medical professionals in decision making about the nutritional care. He/she is responsible for planning food and nutrition programs, recommending dietary modifications, educating patients on diets that may help improve their condition of health, coordinating with health professionals in taking care of patients’ nutritional needs etc. They can further specialize in frontier areas such as clinical dieticians, community dieticians, consultant dieticians, management dieticians etc. Alternately, these professionals can be employed in government health departments, corporate hospitals, industries and schools and colleges for planning nutritional regimen.
