Institute Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC)
Introduction
The Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) of Mahatma Gandhi Medical Advanced Research Institute (MGMARI), Pondicherry was established in May, 2023, aimed at promoting ethical Preclinical research that protects the rights and safety of study animals, safety and efficacy of Test Chemicals. The graduates, Research Scholars and Ph.D. Students, faculties and anyone who undertake Preclinical research in the institute follows the ethical guidelines necessitated by IAEC, MGMARI. Also, other Institutions, Laboratories, Industries and Private sectors can collaborate with MGMARI commercially.
IAEC of MGMARI includes nine members of whom four are nominated by CCSEA (Government of India) and remaining five members by the institute. The chairperson and member secretary of the committee are nominated by the institute from the existing members. The term of appointment of the committee is for a period of 5 years. The committee meets at regular intervals to review new proposals, requests and existing policies. The committee also regularly monitors the procedures and practices related to animal experiments to ensure that animal welfare and ethics are strictly followed at every point of research.
