Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)

Bachelor of Dental Surgery is a 5 year (4 years academic education + 1-year mandatory internship) undergraduate course approved by the Dental Council of India. Professional competencies and learning outcomes are designed to prepare students to become dental professionals. The curriculum includes theoretical knowledge in various fields of dentistry, clinical case studies, demonstration and patient management.

The BDS course contains the basic subjects like Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Dental Materials, Oral Anatomy and Histology, Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology, General Medicine and General Surgery. BDS course also contains Dental subjects like Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, Oral Pathology & Microbiology, Oral Medicine & Radiology, Prosthodontics, and Crown & Bridge, Periodontology, Orthodontics & Maxillofacial Orthopaedics and Public Health Dentistry.

The BDS degree is awarded on the successful completion of the four years of academic education and one-year internship program in dentistry. After successful completion of the BDS course, the candidate is qualified to practice as a dentist.
