Empathy in Patient Care
The Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, in association with Scientific Academic Forum, IGIDS, conducted a Continuing Dental Education program on ‘Empathy in Patient care’ on 13 th October 2017 for the undergraduate students. The objective of the program was to educate the importance of empathy in day to day patient care as well as to sensitize the students in emotional health during the patient care.
The program commenced by invoking the blessing of the almighty through a melodious prayer
song composed by our alumni. Dr. A Santha Devy, Professor and Head, Dept. of Oral Pathology
& Microbiology welcomed the gathering with a welcome address. The resource person Dr.
Kumar, PhD, Founder Director, Centre for Improving Relationship and Personal Effectiveness,
was felicitated with floral bouquet, certificate and memento by Dr. Vezhavendhan, Professor,
Dept. of Oral Pathology & Microbiology, IGIDS. A total of 70 delegates including
undergraduates, post graduates and faculties attended the program. The interesting interactive
lecture contained psychological exercises which delivered a unique learning experience to the
students. The program ended with Vote of Thanks by Dr. Vidyalakshmi, Reader, Dept. of Oral
Pathology & Microbiology, IGIDS.
