The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology, Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Science (IGIDS), Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Puducherry had organized a National level Oral Cancer Awareness Rally, “India Can Torch” on 14.10.2023 under the aegis of Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists (IAOMP) and ‘MANDALA, USA. The event started at 9.30am at Anna Statue with felicitation of Guests followed by torch holding rally which was inaugurated and flagged by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Prof. Nihar Ranjan Biwas, & Prof. V. Ramesh former Dean MGPGI, Pondicherry & former President of IAOMP along with Prof. Aruna Sharma, Principal, IGIDS and organizing team. The rally marched ahead exhibiting with various slogans to create awareness on the effect of using tobacco and its products and other factors that can develop oral cancer. The rally delivered the importance of periodic oral screening and maintenance of Oral Hygiene that favour the reduction in the incidence of oral cancer cases. On the closure of the rally the torch was received by Prof, A. Santha Devy, Head of the Department, Department of oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology, IGIDS.The awareness rally was remarkable in its performance which had reached the public with great success.
