The 43 rd Annual Conference of Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India (AOMSI), Pondicherry & TN branch, organized a 5 km Marathon ‘RUN FOR OMFS’ stressing on the importance of Anti-tobacco, Oral Cancer and Road safety on 29th September 2018, 6.30 AM. The Marathon was flagged off by Honorable Lt. Gov. Kiran Bedi, Raj Niwas, Pondicherry and ended at MGPGI, Gorimedu, Pondicherry. Around 600 students from various colleges like IGIDS, MGPGI, JIPMER, SVDCH, PIMS, Pondicherry and RMDCH, Chidambaram, participated in the Marathon. 110 students from Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, ran for the cause. Dr Rajkumar, II year postgraduate student, OMFS, IGIDS, SBV, won 2nd prize. Ms Zipporal, Final year undergraduate student, IGIDS, SBV, won 3 rd prize. This event was the continuation of a series of such runs in different cities to draw attention to the speciality of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a single branch of dentistry, dealing with surgeries of the mouth, face and jaws.
