Humane touch, empathy and polite conversation hold the key to effective doctor – patient relationship, says Prof. Gopal Krushna Pal.
Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth (SBV), Deemed to be University, Pondicherry, accredited by NAAC with A ++ Grade and ranked one among the top 100 Universities in India by NIRF, conducted the Convocation 2023, for the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Nursing Sciences on 25 th and 26 th August 2023 respectively.
Addressing the graduates of Faculty of Medicine at the Convocation 2023 on 25 th August 2023, Prof. Gopal Krushna Pal, Executive Director and CEO, All India Institute of Medical
Sciences (AIIMS), Patna graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and delivered the convocation address. In his address, Prof. Gopal Krushna Pal highlighted the qualities of a
good doctor which could be aptly described as the A, B, C and D denoted by Availability,
Behaviour, Compassion and Discipline respectively. Adding further, he informed the gathering that a sea of changes has taken place in the medical profession in recent years
but the fact remains that the healing and comforting touch of a doctor does the miracles. In this regard, it is reiterated that the humane touch, empathy and polite conversation would
go a long way in strengthening the doctor patient bond.
At this convocation, 12 doctoral scholars, 7 M.Phil. scholars, 3 postdoctoral (DM, MCh.,), 343 postgraduates (MD, MS and M.Sc.) and 20 Fellowship and Postgraduate diploma
candidates and 419 MBBS graduates of Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Shri Sathya Sai Medical College and Research Institute and Institute of Health
Professions Education, constituent units of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth were conferred their respective degrees by the Chancellor Shri. M.K. Rajagopalan.

On 26 th August 2023, Prof. Ajay Logani, Head, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Centre for Dental Education & Research, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS),
New Delhi was the Chief Guest. Addressing the graduates in Dentistry and Nursing Sciences, Prof. Logani laid emphasis on the fact that Dentistry and Nursing Sciences have
emerged as much sought after professions in recent years, both nationally and globally. In the last decade, in Dentistry there has been a very welcome trend of more girl students
taking up the programme. This augurs well in the sense that, the girls are bestowed with an artistic hand and an intrinsic capacity to do multi-tasking besides the fact that women
empowerment is depicted at the fore. He further added that the Indian Nursing graduates are in great professional demand in India and in overseas countries.
At this convocation, 70 postgraduates (MDS) and 93 Undergraduates (BDS) from Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, 31 postgraduates (M.Sc. N), 191 (B.Sc. N) and 42
(P.B.B.Sc. N) of Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College, constituent units of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth were conferred their respective degrees by the Chancellor Shri. M.K. Rajagopalan.
Prof. Ajay Logani, the Chief Guest bestowed 53 medals of academic excellence on the graduates including Dr. Sulochana Krishnan Endowment Medal for Excellence in Overall
B.Sc. (N) on the Dental and Nursing graduates.
The Vice Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Prof. Nihar Ranjan Biswas, presented a comprehensive and impressive annual progress report on both the days which touched
upon the various facets of Health professions Education at SBV. Prof. Biswas presented a kaleidoscopic view of the constituent units during the succinct presentation of the progress
reports.
Prof. N. Ananthakrishnan, Dean of Faculty, SBV administered the pledge to the graduates on both the days. The Registrar Prof. A.R. Srinivasan proposed the vote of thanks on both the
days while Prof. Joseph Philipraj, Head, Department of Urology, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute was the Master of ceremony. The Founder Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Shri. M.K. Rajagopalan presided over the solemn academic ceremony on both the days of Convocation.
