Week long Programme on International Yoga Day started @ MGMCRI

International Day of Yoga 2015 was celebrated in a grand manner with a Public Yoga Awareness Programme at the City Centre of MGMCRI in Pondicherry. This was done in collaboration with the Pondicherry Yogasana Association that was founded in 1975 by Yogamaharishi Dr Swami Gitananda Giri at Ananda Ashram, Pondicherry.
More than 300 participants took part in the Mass Yoga Practice of the Yoga Day Protocol from 7 to 7.35 am as per guidelines issued by AYUSH Ministry, Govt of India. This was followed from 9 am by Yoga demonstrations by staff and students of CYTER, and students of Yogachemmal Senthil Kumar. Dr Madanmohan. Prof & Head, Physiology & Director CYTER, MGMCRI gave a lecture on “What is yoga and yoga therapy?”.
Inaugural address was delivered by Prof KR Sethuraman, the respected Vice Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth University and special address by Dr KV Raman, Director Health Services and Director Indian System of Medicine & Homeopathy, Pondicherry. Dr Raman released the e-souvenir for the IDY 2015 celebrations specially brought out for the occasion.
The event was felicitated by Prof Ravishankar, Dean MGMCRI, Dr S Ravichandran, Additional Director, MGMCRI, Yogachemmal Shanmugam of the PYA and Dr S Thiyagarajan, Medical Officer of the MGMCRI City Centre.
Various lecture-demonstrations were presented by Yogachemmal Anbhazhagan on Managing diabetes through yoga, Yogacharya O Gangadharan on Yogic management of cardiovascular disorders and Yogachemmal E Gajendiran on Yogic management of back and neck pain.
This was followed by a lec-dem on Yoga for children by Yogacharini Devasena Bhavanani, on Yoga for women by Yogachemmal Lalitha Shanmugam and on Yogic management of respiratory disorders by Yogachemmal Dr R Balaji.
More than 250 participants benefited from free Yoga therapy consultations and general Yoga sessions as well as had medical checkup and free consultations. The event concluded with open forum, feedback from participants & valedictory at 1.30 pm.
