Faculty Development, Extension and Consultancy Activities

The Centre organises and collaborates with all educational units (MEU, DEU and NEU) in organizing faculty development programs for supporting innovative curricula, competency based medical education, integrated teaching, assessment strategies, microteaching and interactive teaching, development of professionalism, communication skills, patient safety, skill enhancement, utilizing e-learning, simulation pedagogy and many other areas of current interest in health professions education.

CHPE faculty played a key role in organizing institute-wide faculty development for sensitizing PG faculty in introducing Competency Based Learning and Teaching (COBALT), which is a unique experiment in the country which is being copyrighted. Similarly, they lead or collaborate almost all the faculty development programs organized by the medical education unit from time to time. The Medical Education Unit of MGMCRI is actively engaged in organizing programs right from UG level (example communication skills), Interns (sensitization followed by training in specific areas), Post-graduates (PG Protocol writing, PG Pedagogy, Dissertation writing), Faculty members (Microteaching, assessment strategies) and PG Faculty (CBME, Multi-Source Feedback and e-portfolio approach). Similarly Dental Education and Nursing Education Units are involved in Faculty Development Activities which are supported by the CHPE Faculty.

Workshops for training in research methodology

The Centre faculty are actively engaged in training the residents and M Phil and Ph D scholars in organizing Research Methodology Workshops. A special series of Workshops consisting of 25 weeks with extensive ‘hands on’ (carrying 10 credit points) has been introduced by the Deanery of Research & Allied Health Sciences for training the Residents, M Phil and Ph D scholars across the constituent colleges. Two such programs have been held during the last year.

Faculty Development, Extension and Consultancy Activities

The Centre of Health Professions Education has been organizing workshops, seminars and conferences at the National Level on various issues that are not only topical, but also futuristic. The faculty have actively participated in several national and international conferences, delivered orations and key note address/guest lectures on many issues in medical education. Prof B.V. Adkoli is the member of Executive Committee of the Academy of Health Professional Education of India. Prof N Ananthakrishnan has served as Chairman of the Post Graduate Expert Committee appointed by the MCI to reform PG Medical Education.
