The workshop entitled Let’s Explore Apply and Design Educational Research (LEADER) organized by the Centre for Health Professions Education (CHPE) began at 8:45 AM, in the MEU Block of SBV Campus.
The introductory session was capsuled to include SBV Anthem, a glimpse of SBV, the IRHC theme song, messages from the Chancellor Shri M.K. Rajagopalan and the Vice Chancellor Prof. S. C. Parija. This was followed by the welcome address by Dr. M. Shivasakthy, Organising Secretary and outline of the Workshop by Dr. BV. Adkoli, Organising Chairman.
The introductory session was followed by Video Conference session by two eminent speakers Dr. Rashmi Vyas, Director FAIMER Institute, Philadelphia (USA) and Prof. Dr. Arun Jamkar, Former Vice Chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. This was followed by an active brainstorming group exercise and plenary on research question framing in educational research.
Post lunch session had an elaborate presentation with active interacting group exercise on research design, tools and mixed methods study by Dr. Jyoti M. Nagmoti, KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (KAHER). The last session was on Qualitative methods design focusing on Focus group discussion by Dr. D. Kadambari, Prof and Head, Department of Medical education, JIPMER, Pondicherry. The workshop was very successful with extensive group work by the participants. Assignments were given to the delegates for continuing on the second day. The resource persons were honoured by Prof. Adithan, Dean (Research), Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth.
The second day of the workshop entitled Let’s Explore Apply and Design Educational Research (LEADER) organized by the Centre for Health Professions Education (CHPE) began at 8:45 AM, in the MEU Block of SBV Campus.
The rapporteur’s session of the first day was done by the participants. The first session was by Dr. Simran Kaur, AIIMS, New Delhi on mixed method data analysis with group activity. The second session was a hands on training on conducting interview, transcription, coding and thematic analysis of qualitative data analysis by Prof. M. Shivasakthy, Deputy Director CHPE. This was followed by a session on triangulation by Prof. B. V. Adkoli, Director CHPE. The post lunch session on research training in medical education by Prof. Sanjay Bedi, Adesh Institute, Punjab. The program concluded with feedback from the participants and certification.
The salient feature of the workshop is that it culminated in a multi-centric research proposal by the participants and resource persons and it was also decided to send the key inputs of the workshop as “Pondicherry declaration” to the professional associations and regulatory bodies. The workshop had diverse participants from Kannur, Thirunelveli, Mangalore, Udupi, Odisha, Chennai, Salem, Mandya, Coimbatore, Bangalore, and Puducherry.
