NATIONAL FACULTY DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP ON GUIDELINES FOR APPLYING EXTRAMURAL RESEARCH GRANTS

The Deanery-Research, SBV organized a two days Faculty Development Program on “Guidelines for Applying Extramural Research Grants” on 19th and 20th November 2019 at SBV. The workshop had received an overwhelming response from faculty and students from states across South India. A total of 35 participants have registered from reputed institutions like CMC-Vellore, Government Medical College – Ongole, Arvind Eye Hospital – Puducherry, PES Institute of Medical Sciences and Research- Andhra Pradesh, Government Medical College-Pallakad, Sri Manakular Vinayagar Medical College & Hospital- Puducherry, GSL Medical College- Rajahmundry, Konaseema Institute of Medical Sciences & RI-Andhra Pradesh, St. Peter’s Institute of Higher Education & Research – Chennai, Indira Gandhi Medical College & RI-Puducherry including faculty and research scholars from SBV (MGMCRI, IGIDS and Centres). The workshop comprised of both lectures and hands-on training on all aspects of Funding opportunities in India. Basics of grant writing and components of grant application, Guidelines for selection of topic, Writing a grant application I & II: Title, Objectives, Hypothesis, Literature review, Methods including statistics, Expected Outcome, Timeline, Budgetary projections and References, Writing a concept proposal, Funding opportunities from abroad, Collaborative research projects, How are grants reviewed? Tips for successful grant writing, Grant writing for CME/Workshop/Conference (ICMR-DHR/DBT/SERB/CSIR/MCI) and Applying for Travel Grants. The lectures were delivered by eminent speakers from various reputed institutions like Prof. Satyamoorthy K, Director School of Life Sciences, Manipal University, Dr. Lakshmisha C, Dr. Reena Gulati and Dr. Sreekumar Nair from JIPMER, Puducherry, Prof. S.C. Parija, Vice-Chancellor, SBV, Prof. Adithan C, Dean-Research, SBV and Dr. Stephen S, Dr. Karthikeyan N and Dr. Agiesh Kumar from SBV. The participants were provided with the registration kit, manual, and lunch for all two days. Towards the end of the function, Prof. Adithan C and Prof. Stephen S had an open house interaction with the participants and received glowing feedback from the participants asking for further workshops. Our honourable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. S.C.Parija distributed the certificates to the participants. We look forward to organize many such workshops in future for the benefit of students and faculty alike.
