PALM SEED PLANTATION PROGRAMME- BAHOUR LAKE (AN NSS & ECO-CLUB ACTIVITY OF MGMCRI)

On 13th October 2018 Students of  MGMCRI under the guidance of Dr Partha Nandi, Vice-Principal (Student Affairs) and with support and permission from Prof. M. Ravishankar, Dean of MGMCRI, visited Bahour lake, Puducherry to take part in palm seed  plantation program organized by the  “Bharat Green foundation” which is an NGO based at Pondicherry and aims at making a greener and cleaner nation. We started from the campus at 6.30 a.m.
A group of more 50 students from the NSS and ECO-club were gathered for the event. The event was inaugurated by The Hon’ble Lt. Governor. Kiran Bedi and Mr G. Savoundira Rajan, Commissioner of Bahour Commune Panchayat also addressed the gathering and we started planting the palm seeds followed by the Lt.Governor.The students expressed their happiness in meeting one of their favourite leaders and in planting the seeds around bahour lake and also extended full support for the future endeavours.
Mr Avinash G, President, Student Council, MGMCRI  and Mr Nitin K, ECO-CLUB  also spoke about what encouraged them into contributing to the environment and overall events were coordinated by them. At the end of the program, about one lakh of indigenous palm tree species were planted in the locality.
The volunteers of the Bharat Green Foundation appreciated the students for their support and interest. Group photos were taken along with the chief guest and officials after which the event was adjourned for refreshment. Event co-coordinators did a commendable job in organizing the transportation and taking the entire responsibility of the team. We reached the campus at 9.30 a.m. with a wonderful experience.
