WORLD MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY- 2022

Shri Sathya Sai College of Nursing organized a sensitization program on menstrual hygiene in commemoration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day. Around 78 participants including undergraduate nursing students and employees of SSSMCRI benefited from the sensitization program.

The keynote address was given by Prof.Dr.Helen Shaji JC, Principal, SSSCON. She emphasized the need of breaking the silence behind menstrual health and hygiene issues. She further motivated the participants to work as active members in breaking the silence behind the normal physiology ‘The menstrual cycle’.  Dr.Uma Devi T, Associate Professor, Department of OBG Nursing sensitized the volunteers about menstrual hygiene. She informed the volunteers about the key facts about menstruation and its facts and enlightened their knowledge regarding hygienic measures that need to be carried out during menstruation. Furthermore, the students were given some question and answer sessions to recall the learning material. The employees were actively involved in a group discussion regarding myths and taboos behind menstruation. Necessary clarifications and counseling were provided to them during the program.

Outcome: Menstrual hygiene drive increases awareness regarding menstrual health and hygiene among the public including adolescents. It will also change the negative attitude regarding the same.
